— Concealment of a child by one parent is a form of child abuse.
You and your child are in a vulnerable position when your relationship with your spouse begins to deteriorate or encounter problems.
Child Concealment is a Violation
Child concealment is a wrongful act because it involves controlling, detaining, and hiding a child.
It is defined as taking a child without permission through persuasion, force, or violence. There are two types of child concealment: concealment by one parent or abduction by another party. In most cases, concealment by one parent is the most common.
If one parent hides the child from the other, this usually happens before or during divorce proceedings. The purpose is often to avoid a court ruling or to defy an existing custody decision.
Child Concealment is Hard to Understand
The idea that a child’s freedom and well-being are taken away is a nightmare for any parent.
The most common form of concealment is when one parent takes, detains, and hides the child from the other parent. It is generally assumed by society that the concealer is the parent themselves.
This form of concealment lacks support from the other parent, as it shows disregard for reality and only creates further complications that are difficult to resolve.

Psychological and Emotional Impact on the Child
The longer the child remains hidden, the greater the concern for their psychological, emotional, and overall well-being.
Moving a child away from their home or environment can negatively affect their health. Children generally need the support of their family to help them adapt to changes in a new community or school.
Children should always feel safe and at peace. Unfortunately, conflicts between parents — and especially divorce — can cause long-term negative impacts. Imagine how a child feels when their relationship with one parent is cut off. This becomes worse when the child is isolated, kept out of school, and has limited social interaction because the concealing parent fears the child’s whereabouts will be discovered.
